About this collection

Arthur Story Bushing (March 24, 1922 – October 29, 2008) spent much of his childhood in Jamestown, Tennessee, was a Maryville College alumnus, and a World War II Army veteran. He returned from the service to the employ of his alma mater as an Assistant Professor, eventually serving as chair of the English Department and taking the role of Dean of Men. Retiring in 1996, he remained active in the life of the college and pursued research interests. Chief amongst those interests was the history surrounding his father, Arthur Samuel Bushing, who had served as Sergeant Alvin C. York’s personal secretary upon York’s return from Europe after World War I. This collection consists of papers and photos passed down to him from his father, as well as the documentation of his own research and presentations of its findings in articles and speeches. The following digitized materials only represent a portion of the entire collection.
